Methyl Mercury is the most toxic derivative of organic Mercury.

Acid Rain drops mercury into our lakes and streams. In the lake bed the mercury transforms into Methyl Mercury and the little bugs on the lake bed take it in. The small fish eat the mercury filled little bugs. Bigger fish eat the little fish. The older the fish the higher the possibility of being toxed out when a human eats the fish.

Indiana is pursuing stricter mercury rules than EPA is willing to endorse. One thing that needs to be crucially included in these and other pollutant rules are the fines imposed need to be in the millions.

Adding biomass to coal WILL reduce mercury output of power companies. Coal boiler operators on the East coast have realized profits from doing this. The cost of conversion compared to later profits and environmental cleansing is a sound business decision.

Hardware stores need to start mercury gathering of household thermostats as soon as possible. Heating companies also need to collect old thermostats.

All people with mercury thermometers no longer in use can get a free digital thermometer at most hospitals.

If you haven’t noticed you can no longer purchase mercury thermometers in drugstores. This is a great thing.

The substitution of fly ash for cement in concrete is one of America’s biggest by-product usage successes. Unfortunately, however, if even a small amount of powdered activated carbon (PAC) is injected into power plant flue gases for mercury emission control, the resulting fly ash has been found to be unusable in concrete.

The injection of brominated powdered activated carbon (B-PACTM) into power-plant flue gases for mercury removal has now been tested at seven different power plants. These plants have burned bituminous, subbituminous, lignite coals, and blends and include testing with cold-side ESPs, hot-side ESPs, spray dryers, and fabric filters.
